The long trip home

Thursday, March 7, 2007

We left Israel at 1 AM in the morning. Our day was really a continuation of Wednesday when we left Jerusalem and headed to the airport. There we sat until the early morning hours to leave.

The flight home was a lot more crowded as Spring time was sending a lot of young people and families to the states on vacation. This time every seat was filled. But, the blessing was that I got a chance to share the trip and the wonders of our time in Israel with a young secular Jewish girl. She had a lot of questions about Christianity and it was great to be able to express some of the joy we found while visiting her home land "Eretz Yisrael".

The trip was a little longer going home against the winds. Leaving at 1:30 AM and arriving at LAX at 6:45 AM it looked like a 6 hour trip on paper but we were flying back in the time zones for 10 additional hours. It was dark most of the trip and we were all very tired so it was not hard to sleep for most of this time.

Once back at LAX it was a quick trip through customs and on to Southwest Air for our very short trip from LA to San Jose. It was good to be home. But, I think for all of us our lives will never be the same. For one thing the Bible is now something with a clear context that we can view in our memory like never before. My interest in history has increased and since the trip I have spent many hours looking into both old and new history for this land.

I look forward to doing this again. Like most things that contain more than the mind can absorb I hope to do it again and pick up the details that I missed this time. Now that I have more study of both the scriptures and the history many of the spots that had less meaning to me will now be more interesting.

Perhaps we will return in 2008.
